Perch Fishing Tackle for Edmonton-Area Lakes
Yellow perch are one of Alberta's most fun and accessible fish — they school up, they bite aggressively, and they're fantastic table fare. The lakes around Edmonton and Stony Plain hold excellent perch populations, and Stony Tackle Shack has the light tackle and live bait to make your perch trips consistently productive.
Light Rods and Reels for Perch
Perch fishing calls for light to ultralight spinning gear — sensitive enough to feel the bite, light enough to make every fish fun. We carry ultralight and light spinning combos from Shimano, Daiwa, and Abu Garcia that are perfectly matched for perch jigging. Pair them with 4–6 lb monofilament or light fluorocarbon and you're set.
Perch Jigs and Lures
Small jig heads tipped with a soft plastic or live bait are the bread-and-butter perch presentation. We carry tungsten and lead jig heads in 1/32 to 1/8 oz sizes, Z-Man micro plastics, small spoons, and blade baits that trigger perch in both open water and through the ice. Bright colours — chartreuse, orange, pink — tend to produce well on Alberta perch.
Live Bait for Perch
Small minnows and worms are perch magnets. We stock fresh fathead minnows and nightcrawlers throughout the season. For ice fishing, waxworms are also available. Call ahead to confirm bait availability before your trip.
Ice Fishing for Perch
Perch are one of the best ice fishing targets in Alberta — they stay active all winter and can be found in large schools under the ice. We carry dedicated ice fishing jigs, tip-up rigs, and light ice combos specifically suited for perch through the ice.
