Bottom bouncers are effective in a variety of conditions, including natural lakes and reservoirs, and can be used all season long. They are especially useful in muddy or sandy areas, and are a good choice for catching walleye.

Bottom bouncers are typically used from a slow-moving boat, and the main line should remain roughly vertical. The bait streams out behind on the leader, just above the bottom.
