If you only have one stillwater fly the Doc Spratley Red is the one to have. Easily the first fly we pull out of our boxes and usually troll on the way to our fishing spots. From there it is either left on by itself or we've seen what the hatch is and put a dry fly (like our Goddard Caddis) on top as a catch-able indicator. Great for use with trout, steelhead and even smallmouth bass.

Effective fished in many different ways, the classic Doc Spratley Green is one of the most recognized searching and trolling flies around. Use a combination of trolling, pause and retrieve, hand roll, dead drift, any technique you can think of and something will entice a hit.

Best known as a trolling fly, the classic Doc Spratley black is best used as a searching pattern. Usually the first fly we use at a new lake, trolled slowly it almost always produces a fish.

As one of our more elegant flies, the Devil's Tickler Orange/Black is a predator fly everyone should have. The feathers create a life like movement that attracts the most picky predators.

Our Devil's Tickler Fire Tiger simply attracts predators and is well know for its ability to bring large muskie to nets. Here in Alberta its used on just about anything with teeth, including bull trout.

Pike love bright colors and lots of movement and our Devil's Tickler Black/Chartreuse is all that and more. The life like movement is accentuated by the bright contrast of the black/chartreuse colouring. A fly for serious predator anglers.

Our Deep Blue Poison Tung features a tungsten beadhead which helps it sink faster than traditional beads. As useful imitating midges in fast moving streams as it is chrionmids in stillwater.  With over 14,000 species of midges make sure to have a few drys as well.

Dave's Hopper Yellow is a productive grasshopper variant. Mostly used on the top of a hopper-dropper type set up where it is useful as an indicator that can hook fish. Sometimes a good bit of twitching is needed to induce a strike but it is often fast and hard when it happens.

In central Alberta during the late summer and fall is hopper season. Few trout can refuse the the sheer amount of tasty calories provided by these juicy insects. When the hoppers are around Dave's Hopper Green is a great way to take advantage a trouts favorite food.

Much like other hopper patterns the Dave's Hopper Brown appreciates a little bit of twitching on the water to make it appear alive as opposed to just floating down the steam. The drift is also used to the same effect. Master these fishing techniques and the Dave's Hopper Brown will produce like no other.

The Crystal Back Scud Tan is a lighter version of our popular beadheaded fly.

Scuds are easily one of a trouts favorite foods and our Crystal Back Scud Pink is just as effective in still water as it is in flowing.

Our Crystal Back Scud Olive is a must have in every fly box as it seems as though the trout are always willing to eat them.

During a trip to a secret stream (sorry) in central Alberta we came across pool after pool of still water containing many cutthroat trout. After casting pattern after pattern to them with no success we tied on one of these and it was non-stop action from there on. Strip it like a baitfish or swing across stream, make sure to give it some life and you will hook up.

The Conehead Egg Sucking Leech Black with Pink Head was tied specifically for a trip to fish Victoria B.C. steelhead but during testing we found it also good for freshwater trout and even walleye. There is always at least one in our boxes.

The Conehead Egg Sucking Leech Black with Orange Head is just as at home on the swing as it is at our local Alberta stocked trout ponds. One of our favorite steelhead flies, the conehead really gets the fly deep in a hurry.

The Conehead Dolly Llama White is one of our favorite flies for Bull Trout.
