A mormyshka is a small, weighted fishing lure, or jig, that originated in Russia and is commonly used for ice fishing. It consists of a metal head, often made of tungsten, with a hook soldered to it. The name comes from the Russian word for freshwater shrimp  because its design mimics small aquatic organisms to attract fish.
